My English Learning Journey,

I never treated English as a language but instead as a subject because I grew up thinking that I have to study it as one of the core subjects in school. I did not read any English books during my childhood because it was never something that occurred to me. I was always contented when I see a “Pass” and I did not bother trying to improve my English. When I grew older, I realized that it was different. I have to start putting in effort to improve my English or else I will be the one who suffers. Thus, I consulted my classmate for tips to improve English. She told me to try reading more, as long as it is written in English. I took her advice and attempted to read more. Initially, it was dreadful to even read one chapter that it gave me headaches. Now that I have gotten used to reading, it felt easier to understand and certainly improved my English (from my grades). Now, I try to read more not only for my grades, but also for my learning and understanding.

English language can help me to craft a proper and well-written final year report in my final year of university education. It is an important component that could help me get my honours degree. Also, it helps me to write better essays for my modules that require lots of writing. Ultimately, it is important to write essays that bring across the ideas that you are proposing clearly so that even a layman can understand what you are writing. English definitely can help me in my future career especially before you get a job, you may have to understand what the contract entails, what is required for the job and what are the possible implications.
